WSPR Scout Terms of Use
These terms cover the WSPR Scout Android app (com.coupletic.wsprscout). They are a draft until owner and legal review is complete.
Named publisher in this draft: Coupletic. Contact: support@coupletic.com.
Acceptance and eligibility
By installing or using the app you agree to these terms. If you cannot agree, do not use the app. The app is intended for amateur radio operators who can understand WSPR reports. It is not directed at children under 13.
Limited license
You receive a personal, non-exclusive, revocable license to install and use the app on Android devices you own or control, for the purpose of viewing and analyzing WSPR reports. You may not redistribute the app except as allowed by Google Play or another channel the publisher authorizes.
Appropriate use
Use the app in a way that respects amateur-radio regulations, third-party terms (including wspr.live and Google), and other operators. Do not use the app to attack, overload, or abuse data providers.
Your responsibility for radio law
The in-app tone generator plays audio on the device speaker using a WSPR-like 4-FSK timing pattern. It does not encode the typed callsign, grid, or power into a real WSPR message, and it does not transmit RF.
No emergency or life-safety use
Do not rely on WSPR Scout for emergency communications, safety-critical decisions, navigation in harm's way, or life-safety systems. Spots can be late, incomplete, duplicated, or wrong.
No guarantee of propagation or data quality
The app does not guarantee that a path is open, that a decode is correct, or that a third-party database is complete or available. Transmitter power is self-reported. Distances use Maidenhead grid centers, not GPS of each station. Charts analyze the currently loaded result, which may be truncated by your request limit.
Public and third-party WSPR data
Spot data is public amateur-radio data retrieved from third parties, currently the ClickHouse API at db1.wspr.live serving wsprnet.org community data. WSPR Scout does not own the WSPR protocol, WSJT-X, WSPRnet data, amateur callsigns, or third-party trademarks.
wspr.live non-commercial terms still need owner confirmation before a commercial Play listing.
Intellectual property
The app's original code, UI, and WSPR Scout branding belong to the publisher except for third-party components (including Android, Google Maps, AdMob, Play Billing, chart libraries, and OkHttp).
Third-party services and non-affiliation
WSPR Scout is not affiliated with WSJT-X, the WSJT Development Group, wsprnet.org, wspr.live, Reverse Beacon Network, QRZ, or Google, except as a customer of Google Play, Maps, Ads, and Billing APIs. Those names belong to their owners.
Updates and discontinuation
The publisher may update, change, or stop the app. Features present in source but not wired in the UI (including Reverse Beacon Network, a propagation chart destination, KML export, and experimental map overlays) are not promised.
Ads and the optional subscription
The free install may show AdMob banners. A yearly Google Play subscription (product id premium_yearly) is implemented to hide those banners. Coupletic intends to price it at about $12 per year. Google Play sets the live price and tax.
That purchase is an ad-removal subscription. It is not a charitable or tax-exempt donation. Google Play requires Play Billing for an ad-free version of an app, and Play Billing must not be used for tax-exempt donations.
Warranty disclaimer
The app is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, to the extent allowed by law. That includes implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the extent allowed by law, the publisher is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or lost-data damages, or for amounts greater than you paid for the app in the three months before the claim (which may be zero if you only used the free install).
Confirm this cap and whether consumer-protection law in your home country requires different wording.
Indemnity
If you use the app in a way that breaks the law or these terms and that causes a claim against the publisher, you will defend and pay the reasonable cost of that claim, to the extent allowed by law. This clause is meant to stay proportionate to a consumer utility. Counsel should confirm or remove it.
Governing law
The publisher is Coupletic, a Tennessee limited liability company.
Governing law and venue are not confirmed. A candidate is Tennessee, United States because Coupletic is a Tennessee LLC. Do not treat that as the chosen forum until counsel and Coupletic say so.
Changes
These terms may change. The date above will move when a reviewed version is published. Continued use after that date means you accept the revised terms, except where local law says otherwise.
